This growth in breast tissue causes some men to feel self-conscious and lose confidence in their appearance. Fortunately, this no longer needs be a concern thanks to chest reduction surgery which can surgically remove excess fatty tissue.

Male chest reduction surgery uses similar surgical techniques as liposuction  to remove excess fat and tissue from the chest area. The operation is quick and simple to do, and the outcome of the procedure is generally received positively by patients.

If you are man concerned because you have growth of fatty tissue around the breast area, then male chest reduction surgery might be the solution for you.

Male chest reduction surgery can be performed under local or general anaesthetic, depending on the treatment method, and can take one to two hours.

Liposuction is an effective way to remove fat from areas of the body that typically retain fat despite dieting and exercise. There are a variety of liposuction methods a surgeon could utilise to carry out this procedure, including VASER Lipo, MicroLipo and Surgical Liposuction. Your surgeon will discuss these options with you and recommend the most suitable method.

  • Remain in hospital for a day or two after the procedure to start recovery.

After male chest reduction surgery and recovery

After undergoing surgery, it’s vital, in the early stages, to give your body a chance to recover by resting and not undertaking any strenuous activity. This also means taking some time off work, typically one or two weeks, or as advised by your surgeon.

It’s normal to experience some discomfort, swelling and bruising, but this should settle down after a couple of weeks.

The operated area needs to be kept dry and the bandages mustn’t be removed until your first follow up appoint. It is very important to attend follow up sessions to make sure that your making good progress with your recovery.

You will be provided full guidance and support on the best way to recover from male chest reduction surgery during consultation.

It is common to experience some of the following effects after surgery:

  • Tightness around the chest area

If, after the procedure, you feel you have encountered a serious problem or the outcome is not what you were promised, and the results are not what you expected, reach out to your surgeon.

Contact the clinic that performed the procedure and explain the situation, especially if you’re experiencing discomfort or any unusual symptoms that were not explained to you during the consultation.

Opting for any form of cosmetic treatment requires a lot of careful thought and consideration. You need to really understand the reasons for choosing the procedure you want and set realistic expectations of the outcome.

Once your mind is made up, are you confident that you are fully prepared for the treatment?

Here are some things you should think about:

  • How long is the recovery time for your treatment?
  • How long do you need to take off work?
  • When will you start to see the results you expect?
  • When will you fully recover and resume your usual activity?
  • Are the results of the surgery permanent?
  • If you have children, do you need childcare during recovery?
