The national healthcare system of Hungary is based closely on the national healthcare service of the UK. Although there are some prominent state-run hospitals and clinics, most top hospitals and clinics in Hungary are privately owned and operated. Private hospitals usually have state of the art facilities, medical equipment and use the most advanced technologies to treat patients.
All healthcare clinics and hospital in Hungary are accredited by the local health ministry and the State National Health Commission and Medical Service. Hungary has only one facility accredited by the JCI, but there are many other clinics that are recognised by the CQC in the UK. Some care providers have also been certified by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).
Travelling to Hungary for treatment
Each year around 700,000 British nationals travel to Hungary. Flight time is usually 2.5/3 hours from London.
Before travelling ensure you have purchased private travel insurance. Although travel insurance will not assist with the cost of medical travel or any treatment complication you may experience, it can help with any unanticipated incidences that may occur during your travel to and from Hungary
While in Hungary make sure you carry your passport with you. You must be able to show proof of ID when requested. Photocopies are not an acceptable form of ID.
